Add texture, pattern, and interest to your outfit with this versatile layering piece - the Atitlan duster vest from Guatemala.
Pairs fantastically with a classic cigarette pant and neutral top for a stunning look that transitions from day to night. Or pair it with your favorite jeans! Made from the most exquisitely detailed Guatemalan fabric, the shades of celadon and mint green are interwoven with a gold thread in a process that is largely dying out among younger weavers. We are determined to keep this textile tradition alive!
Based on ancient Mayan spinning and dyeing techniques, Guatemalan textiles are an enduring link to a rich cultural past. Weavers today (mostly women) still derive colors for their threads from vegetable and minerals. They continue to use the original Mayan loom, also known as a backstrap loom that is worn around the weaver’s waist. With skill and creativity, these Mayan weavers preserve their traditional craft techniques while creating an income for their families.
